We believe the “True Spirit” of Gettysburg was probably killed in this area surrounding the Ginnie Wade house.
It has been recorded that during all three days, many men, boys and one girl died on this hallowed ground.
On July 2nd, 1863 some of the fiercest fighting reported in the Battle of Gettysburg took place on Cemetery Hill.
By the end of the first day of battle, the Union Line formed here and held strong both day and night protecting this position.
General Oliver Howard’s 11th Corps formed the end of the Union Line that became known as the Curl in the Fishhook.
Our search begins based on historical records and maps of Union soldiers who fought and died on Cemetery Hill.
